THE GAP WE’RE WORKING TO CLOSE

Good intentions need
practical follow-through.

Running a small business in California means managing people, serving customers, and meeting payroll while navigating complex workplace requirements. Knowing that a rule exists is only the beginning.

Wagely is being built to help employers turn that knowledge into consistent manager habits: recognize a concern, preserve the facts, involve the right people, and follow through.

A practical resource alongside qualified counsel.
Never a substitute for it.

Accurate timekeeping

Capture actual work. Preserve the explanation.

  1. Record the work.

Make it easy for employees to report all time worked, including required preparation, closing tasks, and work away from the workplace. A schedule is not a substitute for the actual facts.

  2. Correct with an explanation.

Keep the original entry, proposed corrected time, reason, supporting information, reviewer, and date. Ask neutral questions when information conflicts. Do not change an entry simply to match a schedule.

  3. Close the loop.

Send approved corrections through the established payroll process. Confirm that they were processed and explain how an employee can raise a remaining discrepancy.

Put it into practice

An employee’s clock-in differs from the scheduled start. What should the manager do?

This sample does not create a training certificate or save a learner record. Review applicable requirements and individual circumstances with qualified advisers.

WHY WAGELY EXISTS

Built from experience
on the defense side.

Attorney-founded
California-focused

“By the time a problem reaches an attorney, the opportunity for inexpensive prevention may already have passed.”

Wagely’s founder is a practicing defense attorney who has seen the struggle small California businesses face: trying to compete, support employees, and stay compliant while the cost of outside counsel can quickly become overwhelming.

Those pressures can force owners to question whether they can keep their businesses open or remain in California. Wagely began with a practical question: how can we make preventive knowledge easier to use before a dispute develops?

The goal is to help employers avoid early pitfalls, recognize when counsel is needed, and organize evidence of the steps they actually take toward compliance. A checklist alone cannot establish compliance; meaningful practices and follow-through are what matter.

We are building a sustainable, accessible resource for small employers and the advisers who support them—with better workplace practices for employees at its heart.

A few useful distinctions.

Does Wagely replace an employment attorney?

No. Wagely provides general education and workflow tools. Individualized legal questions, disputes, and decisions require appropriate professional advice. Viewing or using this site does not establish an attorney-client relationship.

Does completing a checklist establish compliance?

No. Tools can help organize real practices and follow-up, but completion does not establish legal compliance, immunity, or eligibility for any statutory defense or penalty reduction.

Can I buy access or create an account?

Not yet. Wagely is in development. This page includes a public sample; the broader working prototype remains private. No payments or enrollment information are collected here.

Who is the planned product for?

Small California employers with hourly teams, their managers, and independent HR advisers. The initial focus is practical manager education, timekeeping workflows, and implementation resources.
